Heritage
UNESCO World Heritage Sites are special places (such as forest areas, mountains, lakes, deserts, monuments, buildings, or cities, etc.) that are selected by the World Heritage Site Committee; and this committee takes care of these sites under the aegis of UNESCO.
The objective of this program is to select and preserve such sites of the world which are important for humanity from the point of view of world culture. In certain circumstances, such sites are also given financial assistance by this committee. Till now (till January 2023), about 1157 sites have been declared World Heritage Sites in the whole world, which include 900 cultural, 218 natural, 39 mixed sites.
Each heritage site is the property of the particular country in which that site is located; but it is also in the interest of the international community to preserve them for the future generations and for the benefit of humanity. Rather, the entire world community has the responsibility of its preservation.
