Failure to do so will result in job termination, regardless of a teacher’s age or years of service.

  • Critical Mandate: This ruling has made TET qualification compulsory for approximately 1.85 lakh (185,000) teachers currently in service who previously did not hold this certification.
  • Two-Year Window: The Uttar Pradesh government has provided a two-year period for these teachers to clear the UPTET. If they fail to pass within this timeframe, their employment will be terminated.
  • Exam Frequency & Support: To facilitate this, UPTET will now be held twice a year. Furthermore, serving teachers appearing for the exam will be granted official leave from their schools.

  • Total Candidates: A staggering 19,94,661 (nearly 20 lakh) candidates are participating.
  • Serving Teachers: 1,85,791 currently employed teachers are taking the exam to secure their jobs.
  • New Candidates: 18,08,870 new aspirants are vying for teaching positions.
  • Examination Centers: The exam is being conducted across 955 centers in 60 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Major Exam Hubs:

  • Varanasi: Hosted the highest number of centers (68), accommodating 1,27,239 candidates.
  • Prayagraj: Had 53 centers for 76,634 candidates.
  • Lucknow: Set up 45 centers for 76,720 candidates.

Ensuring Fairness and Transparency

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has implemented stringent measures to ensure a fair and transparent examination process, especially given past instances of paper leaks:

  • Multi-Layered Security: Exam centers are equipped with robust security protocols.
  • Biometric & Iris Scans: Candidates undergo biometric and iris scanning for identity verification.
  • CCTV Monitoring: All activities are monitored via live CCTV feeds directly to a Command and Control Center.
  • Observer Deployment: Senior officials, including retired IAS and IPS officers, have been appointed as observers in every district.
  • STF Deployment: The Special Task Force (STF) is on alert to curb cheating and illegal activities.

Eligibility Update: NIOS D.El.Ed Candidates

An important clarification has also been issued regarding eligibility for candidates with the NIOS D.El.Ed (ODL) course:

  • Only candidates possessing an 18-month D.El.Ed (ODL) course.
  • And who were in service on or before March 31, 2015.
  • Are provisionally permitted to appear in UPTET 2026, subject to the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings in the High Court.
